A Garden Skirmish

I pushed past the cracked front door screen and sidestepped onto the damp porch, longing for fresh air. Right beneath a large terracotta pot, a dark, moist crevice in the garden soil caught my eye. I scrambled down the steps and shoved my claws into the loose earth to dig a cool shelter. But every time I dug, a fat, soggy fallen oak leaf kept flopping right over my entrance! After the third time it blocked my hole, I lost my patience entirely. I snapped my pincers, seized the stubborn wet leaf with both claws, and threw it clear across the mulch with all my strength.
