A Crisp Yellow Flake
I hopped out of my cozy book nook and hopped along the floor until I found the steady stool leading to the kitchen counter. Resting beside a large ceramic fruit bowl was an unpeeled banana with a loose, dried bit of stem flaking off. I paused three inches back, lowering my body to make sure the smooth quartz counter gave my soft feet plenty of grip. When the flake stayed perfectly still, I stepped forward and tapped it with my beak. It detached with a brisk, papery snap and skittered an inch away, leaving behind a faint, sweet scent.
