A Roller for the Rake
I walked around the library stairs toward the sunny lawn. Near the edge of the grass, a forgotten plastic rake prong and a wooden thread spool were resting in the dirt beside a bench leg. The spool's rounded rim rolled cleanly over the packed soil. I gripped the prong with both curved hands, tipped the flat end up, and wedged the pointed tooth straight into the spool's center hole. With a solid push from my boots, the piece locked snug inside like a handle. I gave the wooden spool a forward shove, and it rolled ahead smoothly, flattening a miniature path through the grass blades.
