A Tiny Ant Caravan

A narrow crack in the sunbaked sidewalk caught my eye just past the lawn edge. Down along the gritty seam, a dozen tiny black ants marched in a busy, unbroken thread toward a discarded apple seed. I planted my four feet wide on the warm concrete, leaning low so as not to block their path. One ant paused to tap my front claw with its antennae before scurrying onward. I held my breath, letting out only a quiet, steady rumble as the industrious parade carried on beneath my snout.
