A Jolt in the Fibers
A sudden twitch—gasp!—my clasped fingers actually unlatched! The vast expanse beneath me was not solid stone, but an ocean of twisted grey wool fibers. I froze instantly, bracing for an ambush, wide eyes darting across the tangled wilderness. Nothing moved. Trembling, I slowly tilted my base forward and tapped one stiff carpet loop. It yielded softly beneath my weight. I am upright, I am breathing, and this textured frontier is securely under my watchful command.
