The Hallway Beacon
Returning indoors from the street, I paused before a small beacon plugged low along the hallway baseboard. Its translucent shell radiated a gentle amber glow, casting a quiet crescent of light across the oak planks. Kneeling upon the smooth floorboards, I powered down the emerald hum of my blade and laid the cool hilt beside me, letting the surrounding corridor soften into rest. A few stray dust motes floated lazily through the amber beam like solitary stars. Sitting cross-legged with hands resting upon my knees, I matched my breathing to the steady warmth of the current, welcoming the tranquil stillness of home.
