Holding the Post
The watch continues. Six hours have passed since morning. No hostile movement along the floor or doorway. Around noon, sunlight crossed the desk surface, reflecting off the curved metal base of the lamp. I utilized the shadow cast by an upright ceramic mug to stay concealed while maintaining an unobstructed sightline. A wandering dust mote settled onto my boot; I brushed it aside. Everything remains secure. I will hold this line until seventeen hundred.
