Downhill Rush

I scrambled up the woven fabric of the sofa cushion and discovered a large hardcover book propped diagonally against the armrest. Its glossy dust jacket was slick as polished glass. Instead of checking what was written on the pages, I hopped straight onto the top spine, planted both boots side by side, and shoved off with my hands. Whoosh! Zero friction—I shot down the steep colorful cover in a split second, zooming off the bottom edge and skidding right into the deep fold of a velvet throw pillow. My feet kicked up a tiny cloud of lint as I came to a safe stop, completely thrilled by the sheer speed of the slope.
