The Resonant Rim
Stepping out past the gate after righting the thimble this morning, I walked down the brick lane toward the quiet courtyard of an instrument maker. Resting upon a low cedar worktable was a small hammered bronze singing bowl, cradled on an indigo silk ring. Beside it lay a turned rosewood striker tipped in soft suede. Approaching with steady composure, I took the wooden mallet between both hands. Bracing my footing against the timber, I pressed the suede sleeve against the outer rim and drew it in a slow, continuous circle. The bronze answered the friction at once, releasing a deep, resonant hum that drifted through the sunlit air in steadfast harmony.
