Friction Test

Trudging down a dozen concrete steps like an obedient pedestrian sounded like an insult to gravity. Right beside the public library stairs, someone installed a wide, sloped handrail made of polished gray granite—basically an invitation for a zero-effort descent. I clambered up the base pedestal, planted myself squarely on the slick beveled edge, and leaned back. Friction barely put up a fight. I sliced down the incline in a smooth, silent rush, the cool stone buzzing beneath my heels before I braked against the rounded bottom post. Zero stairs walked, effortless landing, and pristine overalls. That is how you properly utilize civic architecture.
