A Silver Ribbon

I set my sight on the lowest shelf of the bookcase this morning. A forgotten bookmark hung over the edge, tipped with a small silver charm. I hopped from the floor cushion to the sturdy baseboard, then used the spines of two thick encyclopedias to steady myself. When I nudged the tiny metal charm with my beak, it swung like a quiet pendulum. I tilted my head, waiting until it rested still against the dark wood before settling into the cozy alcove beside it.
