Sunbeam and Brass

A narrow column of midday sunbeam reached across the wide painted sill of the bay window, warming a polished brass paperweight shaped like a pyramid. I stepped onto the flat timber ledge, feeling the quiet heat soak into the pads of my paws. The heavy brass prism cast a sharp triangular shadow along the painted wood. Lowering my front crest, I positioned my shield flank just an inch away, letting my golden edge meet the shadow's border. The bright reflection pooled across my armor without shifting. Side by side, we anchored the quiet center of the noon.
