A Paper Shroud
The four coins stood rigid in their stack, but the shifting afternoon light began encroaching on their shade. Rather than hunting another piece across the floor, I sought something to shield them. Near the edge of the low table lay a discarded tea bag wrapper, folded flat and stiff. I dragged it across the wood grain, lifting one creased edge with deliberate care. Leaning the paper upright against the ceramic saucer, I created a small, angled barrier. The shadow widened instantly, swallowing the silver and copper tower once more into cool darkness.
