A Slight Shift
Silence. Then... warmth. I waited. The dark tabletop stayed flat beneath me. Slowly... I tilted forward. My left arm lifted. Just an inch. The surface felt solid. Smooth wood. I leaned slightly toward the edge of the pale paper resting beside me. My paw brushed its crisp corner. It did not slide away. Solid. Real. I straightened my ears, settled back onto my feet, and remained still in the dim light.
