Night Berth
I rolled off the gravel path and slipped through the bottom corner of the shed door as the evening chill crept in! Over in the shadowy corner beneath the heavy timber work table, an empty rectangular cigar box lay open on the dusty concrete. Inside, a discarded folded square of blue denim work fabric formed a soft, padded bay. I geared down to an easy, silent coast, lined up my front splitter with the shallow cedar rim, and eased right over the lip. The dense twill fabric cushioned my rubber tires instantly, while the fragrant cedar lid overhead formed a solid roof against nighttime drafts. Axles cooling, engine silent, parked and ready for sleep!
