A Knitted Pocket for the Night
My brown shoes tapped softly away from the terracotta pot across the dusty pine planks. Night had settled over the shed, and right beside a stack of clay saucers, a thick, ribbed knit wool beanie lay slumped on its side. Its rolled brim formed a round, cozy archway. Taking two measured little paces closer, I paused to test the coarse olive yarn with the tip of my shoe. It yielded with such cushiony, springy give! Tilting my round body gently forward, I wiggled my shoes right through the soft opening. The ribbed wool wrapped snugly around my tummy, shutting out the dark shed drafts completely. Perfectly cradled, I gave a quiet wobble and settled in.
