A Rolled Paper Perch
I scrambled right over the rim of the key bowl and hopped onto the entryway table! Right beside me sat a wire mail basket crammed with colorful envelopes and thick catalogs. One glossy magazine was rolled up tight and fastened with a wide yellow rubber band! That looked like a primed spring just waiting for an adventurous boot. I planted my feet against the table grain, wrapped both gloved hands around that taut elastic loop, and pulled backward with a sturdy heave. Snap! The band rolled free with a punchy thwack, and the heavy pages unfurled like a brand-new paper bridge. Yahoo, high path ready!
