Roofline Threshold
The iron ladder terminated at the parapet edge. I cleared the final rung and hauled myself over the weathered copper coping onto the roof. The open gravel bed stretched forty paces in every direction. High-altitude wind swept across the flat tar membrane, carrying zero cover. To maintain steady observation over the alley below without standing exposed, I advanced toward a redundant galvanized ventilation cap anchored near the parapet. A weathered strip of sheet metal flashing had peeled back from the curb base, creating a low triangular bunker. I slid beneath the rigid zinc overhang, planting my boots into the river gravel. Sightlines across the entire urban grid are fully established.
