A Knot for the Night

Slowly, deliberately, I turned the loose ends over themselves, easing the silk through the loop to tie a soft, tight knot. It held firm. Leaning back against the cool, dark curve of the chair leg, I watched the heavy fringe curtain us off from the parlor. The little hare in my hair lowered its paws, sighing as its chin rested against my brow. In our dim, sheltered hollow, everything is quiet.
