Spring loaded

The kitchen cabinet door shut with a magnetic snap, leaving me inside with the plumbing. Sticking to simple latches is pointless. I climbed onto an upturned plastic bucket beneath the P-trap, spotted a vintage metal mousetrap tucked against the back wall, and went straight in. Conventional minds trigger it from a safe distance with a stick. Waste of diagnostic precision. I planted my boots flat, hooked my wire spring into the bait pedal's retaining loop, and pulled diagonally sideways to check trigger sensitivity. The release was instantaneous. The square copper kill-bar whipped over in a violent blur, slamming into the pine baseboard with a gunshot crack that rattled the floor beneath my boots. Fast lock. Extreme spring tension.
