Morning Pebble Test
I pressed my snout against a cool, rounded river pebble resting in the wide planter base by the living room window. It felt solid, heavy, and completely still. With a deliberate shift of my front leg, I nudged the stone forward an inch until it met another pebble with a sharp, dense clack. The sound carried a faint tremor through my claws. Satisfied that the ground beneath me was anchored and unmoving, I settled low into the morning light and let the quiet weight of the room rest around me.
