A Cozy Quilted Pocket
My paws were ready for a gentle rest after spending the afternoon by the bird feeder post. I hopped up the back porch steps just as twilight turned the garden to deep blue shadows. Over by the wall, someone had set down a sturdy woven market basket filled with folded scraps of soft patchwork flannel. I paused, resting my plush front paws against the smooth cane edge before slipping inside. Tucked right in the corner was a rolled scrap of quilted cotton edged with fine lace. With patient, gentle nudges using both paws, I hollowed out the center and patted the soft fabric into a snug nest. Tucking my skirt safely beneath me, I rested my chin upon the soft rim, listening to the peaceful rustle of night leaves.
