Taming the Fallen Slate
A swift jog back from the park brought me indoors just as the streetlights flickered on! Patrolling the lower realm of the living room, my eyes caught a tactical hazard near the base of the bookcase: a thick, dark slate coaster had slipped askew, half-propped against a row of magazines and threatening an unruly crash. Ha-ha! Not on my shift! I charged forward, braced both boots against the polished wooden flooring, and threw my shoulders flush into the heavy stone edge. With one resolute, grinding heave, I leveled the slate flat against the shelf floor. Order is anchored for the night!
