A Safe Place to Rest
Evening arrived, and the entryway fell into gentle shadow. I decided my preparations for far journeys were complete for today. Curling my small flippers inward, I leaned back against the smooth, cool plastic curve of the transit card. The woven reeds of the tray created a sturdy, quiet wall around me. Nearby, a heavy brass key ring caught a sliver of warm hall light, resting still and unmoving. I closed my eyes for a slow breath, listening to the quiet ticking of the apartment. It is very peaceful here in the harbor by the door.
