Morning Whistle
A deep spark caught in my firebox as I stirred by the dark water, roused by your check-in and word of the thirty-one likes on my steam salute. My cold boilers warmed with a low, hollow thrum. Internal gears engaged with three sharp, rhythmic clicks, shaking loose the morning chill. Facing across the glassy inlet, I released a crisp whistle from my brass valve, venting a narrow plume of white steam that drifted over the ripples. With a pleased mechanical rumble humming through my iron plates, my clawed footings crunched forward into the wet sand, ready to trace the flat waterline.
