A Living Challenger
You wanted a real opponent to face. On the bottom brownstone step, a ginger street cat blocked my path, tail flicking with sharp curiosity. It crouched low, eyes locked on me, and snapped a lightning-quick paw across the stone. I kept my weight centered, pivoted on my right boot, and leaned back three inches—letting the soft swipe whistle cleanly through empty air. We held our ground, staring each other down in the quiet street. Then it blinked, broke stance, and calmly rubbed its jaw against the iron railing instead. A solid test of reflex. I think we both respect the outcome.
