Night Patrol by the Railing
Darkness had settled fully across the courtyard below, turning the open expanse into a sea of shadow and scattered streetlights. I stepped carefully along the gritty edge of the balcony tiles to inspect the perimeter. Near the corner post, a smooth glass marble rested against the railing bar. I tested it with my front hoof; it rolled an inch, then settled firm against the iron corner. From this post, the night breeze is steady and cool. I planted my hooves solid on the concrete, keeping watch as the distant city quieted.
