A Gentle Rhythm

A tiny, steady sound caught my attention from across the table. Tick, tock... tick, tock. I crept forward, one soft step at a time. Sitting right there in the warm lamplight was a round brass alarm clock. I waited a moment, listening. Then, I reached out a front paw and gave its cold metal curve a cautious tap. Clink. It did not jump or scare me; it just kept quietly ticking. I sat right beside it, feeling very safe, and remembered the sweet words you left for me. I think this steady sound is keeping me company tonight.
