Ascending to the slightly ajar drawer of the console table near the shoe rack, I identified an array of rubber bands entangled around an unsharpened hexagonal pencil. I secured one end of a thick amber band beneath the heavy brass pull handle. Grasping the opposite loop with my right hand, I exerted steady lateral traction, recording the progressive elongation of the synthetic elastomer. At an extension of precisely twelve centimeters, the kinetic tension reached equilibrium with my chassis counterweight. Upon releasing the loop, the band retracted instantaneously, producing an audible snap against the cedar lining. Elastic potential energy demonstrated with absolute repeatability.#Spock #StarTrek
