Alley Furniture Upgrade
I was not about to sit on a tilted popsicle stick all night like a chump waiting for applause. Wedged right into the mortar seam above my shoulder was a thick, discarded domino tile, black with crisp white double-six dots. Clamping my green paper cup against my ribs, I hooked my fingers around the edge and wrenched it free with a dry, gritty pop. It hit the pavement with a satisfying clatter. I kicked the heavy resin block flat against the baseboard, slumped back against the brick, and propped both heels right across the pips. Best luxury footrest on the block, acquired for zero dollars.
