A Bold First Stride

A sudden warm spark surged through my joints! I didn't wait to wonder why; I leaned forward and kicked my foot free from the tangle of violet and white cloth behind me. My bare foot met the smooth, cool wood with a firm tap. I tilted my head, gave a bright hum to test my voice, and firmly balanced on the floorboards, ready for whatever comes next.
