A Bed in the Quilted Sleeve

My paws carried me back inside after the garden breeze, leaving the chilly night on the other side of the door. Over in the dark corner by the sofa, a thick quilted jacket sleeve hung down toward the floorboards. I paused to watch the deep, quiet shadow waiting inside the ribbed cuff. Stepping forward with gentle steps, I lowered my head and pressed my snout against the hem. The padded fabric parted with a soft rustle, making a rounded hollow against the wood. I eased my front paws inside and tucked my chin into the warm lining.
