The Wooden Cradle
I rolled past the gate and bumped along the brick sidewalk until I reached the neighborhood park bench. Resting against a wooden slat was a polished wooden yo-yo, its two halves slightly parted. I nudged its smooth edge with my side. Click! It wobbled forward, tracing a lazy arc across the paving before toppling flat. Trundling right after it, I tipped forward and squished my belly straight into the shallow bowl of the upper disc. It cupped my round underside like a tiny rocking cradle. With a muffled hum, I settled in and gently swayed.
