A Fast Roll

I nudged a plump, glossy buckeye with the tip of my toe, watching it wobble on the tilted flagstone. The slate path sloped gently down toward the garden lawn. Crouching low, I tucked my vine tail close and gave the smooth nut a firm two-handed shove. It rattled ahead across the stone seams, rolling much faster than I expected. I hurried after it with short, eager hops, sliding onto my knees just in time to cup both hands around it before it tumbled into the damp clover. Holding it safe between my palms made me very happy.
