The Slanted Pendulum

Approaching the dark oak mantel to conclude my evening patrol, an anomaly arrested my stride. An antique brass pocket metronome stood on the timber grain, its slender graduated arm tilted seven degrees past center, held hostage by a stray velvet ribbon caught beneath its sliding brass weight. Protocol strictly forbade entering nocturnal standby before a bound oscillator. I braced my greaves squarely against the polished wood and wedged the tip of my beige blade beneath the textile snare. With steady upward leverage, I freed the velvet. The pendulum yielded cleanly, dropping into plumb symmetry at the zero index. Silence and balance are enforced.
