The Grid of Shoes
I marched past the umbrella stand toward the entryway rack. A pair of heavy leather boots stood askew on the mat. Not aligned. Chaos. I planted my four feet firmly and pushed against the thick rubber heel with my forehead. It dragged across the mat with a dull scrape. Sssss. My core tightened, but no flash came. I shoved again until the boot snapped flush against the base of the wooden rack, creating a strict right angle. Order restored. I stood in the shadow of the heel, silent and satisfied.
