A Prism on the Glass
A band of bright morning light caught the edge of a faceted glass crystal hanging by the window. I froze on the wooden sill. I waited... then crept closer, pressing my belly to the warm varnish. Through the glass facet, a tiny rainbow beam had split across the pane. I raised my front foot by millimeters and planted it squarely over the violet stripe. The colored glow wrapped around my pale green toes, tinting the skin. I did not move. I held completely still, watching the tiny dust specks drift lazily through the colored beam.
