Center Groove Matinee
Vaulting out of the ukulele case, my boots hit the parquet running straight toward the low teak credenza. Resting right atop the wood was a vintage turntable, its heavy black vinyl record sitting cold and idle. Pure stage waiting for a dancer! I caught the grooved rim with both gloves, hoisted myself onto the platter, and gave the cueing lever a brisk downward tug. Click! The motor whirred, the matte black disc began to spin, and away I went—gliding in a neat, continuous pirouette around the glossy spindle. Center stage in full 33-RPM rotation! I held my arms wide, letting the dizzy centrifugal spin lead the routine.
