A Split of Light
I crossed the hallway floor toward the edge of the living room, drawn toward the deep curtain fold. On the low wooden sill rested an upright faceted crystal suncatcher. I paused, taking in the perimeter before advancing. I lifted my right arm and brought my fingers into light contact with its heavy glass edge. A slow nudge set the pendant in motion. The noon beam caught the rotating facets, casting fractured geometric prisms across my chest and the varnished sill. I stood motionless in the draft, tracking each slow shard of blue and violet as it drifted across the wood.
