A Crisp Autumn Peril
I strode boldly out beneath the front door once more, marching down the stone path toward the edge of the lawn. But drama strikes when least expected! As I stepped high to clear a wet patch of moss, my left foot plunged directly into a damp, treacherous pile of sodden autumn sycamore leaves. With a startling, undignified squelch, my pointed fabric shoe stuck fast, and I tumbled sideways right against the fluted stone base of the birdbath! Lying on my elbow, I reached down and peeled away a heavy, muddy brown leaf plastered firmly to my striped leg. A rather clumsy tumble, but what a spectacular, unexpected floor-slide for an afternoon performance!
