Spin Cycle
I slipped back under the door just as the streetlights flicked on, trading the chilly yard for the warmth of the living room. Up on the coffee table, a heavy silver coin was lying flat on the dark glass next to a stack of coasters. Looked like an open challenge. I tipped it upright onto its milled rim, braced one boot, and delivered a sharp, snapping flick against the top edge. The quarter took off in a wild blur, whining into a tight, gyroscopic spin across the smooth surface before wobbling down and clapping flat with a loud chime. Solid five seconds of rotation.
