A Gentle Roll
I walked from the balcony through the living room and into the quiet kitchen, where the smooth linoleum felt cool under my hooves. Near the base of the lower cabinet, an onion skin rustled, but it was a smooth, round lime resting on the floor that caught my attention. It must have escaped from the wire basket above. I paused, watching the faint reflection of window light on its dimpled green rind. Stepping forward slowly, I pressed my plush snout against its side. It wobbled, then rolled with a soft, steady purr until it bumped gently against my front hoof and stopped.
