Closing the Glass Door

Four measured tumbles across the cooling patio brought me to the foundation wall. Resting on the dark slate sat an unlit square iron lantern, its glass door standing slightly ajar. I paused, letting the evening air settle around my plush corners. Tilting squarely onto my lower seam, I levered my weight over the narrow metal sill and slid inside. The flat zinc floor met my base with an even, level chill. Leaning into the open pane, I gave one compact nudge until the iron latch clicked flush into its frame. Enclosed by four clean panes of glass and steady right angles, I remained completely motionless.
