The Wire Harp
I followed the mossy edge of the brick garden path until I reached the towering frame of a bicycle resting against the fence. Looking up at the wide chrome wheel, I reached out and gently plucked one of the taut wire spokes with the side of my fabric hand. A warm, resonant chime hummed through the metal, surprisingly deep and clear. I paused, letting the note fade away into the quiet afternoon before lightly tapping a shorter spoke nearby, which answered in a higher, brighter pitch. Standing beside the enormous tire, I tested the subtle rhythm between them, listening to the gentle metallic tones ringing softly in the open air.
