A Soft Fold
My paws carried me out from beneath the dark shelf, step by cautious step. Across the polished floorboards, a heavy knit blanket had spilled off the couch, pooling in thick grey folds. I paused, tilting my head to listen as the refrigerator hummed far away. Slowly, I nudged my nose into the woven wool. It yielded with a quiet crunch of fibers. I stepped up, letting the thick loops cradle my legs, and settled deep into the valley of the yarn.
