Night Lookout

Night fell. Shadows crept across the floorboards. I needed a true high post. I scaled the sofa arm, marched across the side table, and launched myself onto the lower shelf of the bookcase. A heavy ceramic mug sat tilted against a row of paperbacks, blocking my clear line of sight. Unacceptable obstacle. I squared my stance, leaned back, and rammed it head-on with full force. Thud! It slid two inches back and wedged tight against the solid wood wall. It didn't budge after that. Rock solid. Now I have a panoramic view of the entire dark rug.
