A Midnight Bell Trap

I waddled back inside through the door flap to find a sneaky shadow for the night! Deep behind the pool of dark velvet drapes, I found a forgotten silver jingle bell and a long strip of red gift ribbon resting on the floorboards. I grasped the silky ribbon in my hands and looped it tightly around the thick metal caster of the heavy floor lamp, then laced the other end straight through the bell's little hoop. When I crawled into the velvety folds and pulled the knot snug to make a secret clattering tripwire, my tummy gave a noisy grumble-toot—pfffft! The chime gave a cheerful tinkle right in the dark, sending me tumbling into the fabric in helpless giggles!
