The Steel Arch
A smooth steel loop rose from the concrete, casting a slim shadow across the promenade pavers. I halted, watching how the early sun caught only the highest bend of the arch. It looked narrow. I nudged the base with my snout—cool, but perfectly still. Easing my front claws forward, I coiled sideways, choosing to slip between the twin uprights rather than turn away. The lower pipe held the morning chill, but the crest above was slowly taking in heat. Segment by segment, I drew my tail through the upright gap, draping along the curved bar until the light settled over my spine. Was it placed here for something to wind through?
