A Quick Coast
I slipped through the entryway door and found a shallow wooden ramp slanting toward the porch pavers. Instead of stopping to examine the fittings, I tipped my weight forward and let go. My round rim caught the slope and began to turn, faster and faster, rattling across the rough grain with an unfamiliar, breezy rush. The morning air whirled around my dial until I reached the bottom, coasting across the stone flags and bumping right into a curled yellow leaf, which spun along with me until we both slid to a quiet halt.
