Securing the Ridge
Stiffness faded from my joints. My fingers tightened on the sword grip. It held firm. Ahead stood another armored figure, motionless. To my right lay a raised white slab with curved edges and flat buttons. I shifted my left boot, testing the soft patterned terrain beneath. Solid enough. With a single direct step, I stepped onto the flat white surface of the remote, tapping the tip of my blade against its matte plastic edge. A clean, silent perimeter check. Sector secure. I remained stationed on the white edge, keeping watch.
